The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was formally inaugurated on Friday at an event hosted by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Attendees included the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, local government officials from Southwestern Bulgaria, the Chair of the Macedonian–Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce, Biljana Miteva, and business representatives from both nations. Atanas Radev will chair the newly established bilateral chamber.
Radev spoke about fostering connections between the neighboring countries, stating the BMCCI aims to build upon existing foundations of commerce and industry. Kostadinov noted that the economic bridge between Bulgaria and North Macedonia is nearly complete despite recent challenges. He stressed that the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is insufficient given the potential for cooperation, pointing to energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture as key sectors for dialogue between industry groups.
Ambassador Rusi-Popovska, who initiated the Chamber’s establishment, viewed the event as a positive step for unlocking trade potential. She emphasized Bulgaria’s role as a vital market and gateway to the EU for North Macedonia, linking deeper economic ties to North Macedonia’s European integration. She called for increased investment in sectors like energy, manufacturing, transport, and digital services, noting that inadequate infrastructure limits full economic potential.
Ivan Todorov of the BCCI also stressed the need for improved connectivity across road, rail, and air transport. The inaugural BMCCI forum aims to bolster business relations, generate joint venture opportunities, and maintain ties with state and municipal bodies. The chamber plans to host similar forums annually in both countries.
