Monthly Income for Three-Person Household Reaches EUR 1,473, CITUB Reports

Data released by the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) regarding the first quarter of 2026 established specific benchmark costs of living. According to the union, the required monthly income for a three-person household (two adults and one child up to 14 years old) is EUR 1,473, while a single employed person requires an income of EUR 818. CITUB reported that the cost of living income increased by 2.3% quarterly, marking a 5.2% rise year-on-year.

CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov stated that the required income for a three-person household has risen by EUR 73 over the past year, and for a single person, the increase was EUR 40. The report indicated that over 58.3% of employees currently earn an income below the calculated cost of living wage. Despite this, the union noted that the total number of employees in this category is decreasing year-on-year, attributing this shift to overall wage increases over the last 12 months.
