Describes Assessment as Key to Energy Efficiency Projects

Minister of Energy Traicho Traikov emphasized that proper initial assessment is crucial for the successful implementation of energy efficiency improvement projects, stating that the work of energy efficiency consultants is a key component of the entire process. Speaking at the National Meeting of Energy Efficiency Consultants in Sofia, Traikov warned that inadequate preliminary steps can lead to subsequent stages becoming more costly and uncertain. The meeting, organized by the Chamber of Energy Auditors and the Association of Bulgarian Cities and Regions, addressed Bulgaria’s commitment to the EU target of achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions from the building stock by 2050.

Traikov noted that this goal is an ongoing process, observing that nations that proactively commit to such targets tend to secure greater funding and support. He highlighted Greece as an example, pointing out that Bulgaria’s southern neighbor plans to eliminate its coal industry by 2030. While acknowledging that Bulgarian buildings rank among the least energy-efficient in Europe, Traikov framed this situation as a significant opportunity for community transformation.

During the forum, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Dora Yankova announced that the inclusion of lifts in energy renovation projects is under consideration, following consultations with state agencies and non-governmental groups. She noted that approximately 80% of the country’s lifts are over 30 years old. Later, Traikov informed journalists that any future measures supporting citizens and businesses against rising fuel costs would fall under the purview of a subsequent regular government.
