Three-day commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced in Panagyurishte on Thursday. The festivities began with the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative, which featured video messages contributed by children and youth from across the globe. Following this, a theatrical performance was staged, adapted from Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.
During his address, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov thanked attendees for their commitment to preserving historical memory. He stated that the participation demonstrated a shared connection to something larger than the individual, emphasizing the significance of Bulgaria. Notable figures in attendance included BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Director General Milen Mitev, Professor Georgi Valchev, the Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and journalist Boyko Vassilev, who is a presenter for the Bulgarian National Television’s Panorama show.
Earlier that day, participants attended a conference organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the uprising. The commemorative activities continue throughout the city, culminating in a 150 Flamesshow at the 20 April Square in Panagyurishte. The events underscore a widespread recognition of the historical importance of the uprising, drawing participation from across the world.
