Dance Groups from Essen and Krefeld to Perform Jointly in Munich

The dance groups “Shevitsa” from Essen and “Mila Rodina” from Krefeld will perform together as “Shevitsi from Mila Rodina” at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. The event is scheduled to take place at the BMW Park in Munich from May 15 to May 17. The collaboration marks the first joint appearance for the two ensembles.

According to their leader, Ivandzhelin Ivanova, the partnership is motivated by a shared dedication to preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture internationally. The groups will perform the dance “Shopska Zakachka” (“Shopi tease”), a piece choreographed by Iliya Petkov. This routine is inspired by the traditional dances of the Shopluk folklore region, aiming to recreate the energetic atmosphere and playful interactions characteristic of village celebrations.

The performing contingent comprises 22 dancers, whose ages range from 14 to over 60. Several members of the group were born or raised in Germany but maintain strong cultural ties to Bulgaria. Preparation for the festival has involved intensive rehearsals multiple times a week, alongside the creation of costumes and accessories.

This traveling festival convenes amateur Bulgarian folklore ensembles from around the world and has been held in various European cities since its inception in 2015. The participation of the groups from Essen and Krefeld highlights the cultural exchange featured at the Munich event.
