Dance Groups from Essen and Krefeld to Perform Jointly in Munich

The dance troupes “Shevitsa” from Essen, Germany, and “Mila Rodina” from Krefeld, Germany, are set to collaborate for their first joint appearance. Under the combined name “Shevitsi from Mila Rodina,” the two groups will participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. The event is scheduled to take place at the BMW Park in Munich from May 15 to May 17.

According to their leader, Ivandzhelin Ivanova, the collaboration stems from a commitment to preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture internationally. The ensemble will perform the routine “Shopska Zakachka” (“Shopi tease”), a piece choreographed by Iliya Petkov. This performance is modeled after traditional dances from the Shopluk folklore region, aiming to recreate the lively atmosphere characteristic of village gatherings.

The participating ensemble comprises 22 dancers, with ages ranging from 14 to over 60. Several members of the group were born or raised in Germany but maintain strong connections to their Bulgarian heritage. Preparation for the festival has involved intensive, regular rehearsals alongside the detailed creation of costumes and accessories.

The travelling festival itself gathers amateur Bulgarian folklore ensembles from around the world and has been held in various European cities since its inception in 2015. This joint performance marks a significant cultural presentation for the groups representing the region, highlighting the enduring connection to Bulgarian traditions despite their current residence in essen and surrounding areas.
