Dance Groups from Essen and Krefeld to Perform Jointly in Munich

The dance troupes “Shevitsa” from Essen, Germany, and “Mila Rodina” from Krefeld, Germany, will collaborate for their first joint performance at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event is scheduled to take place from May 15 to 17 at the BMW Park in Munich. The two groups are uniting under the banner “Shevitsi from Mila Rodina,” motivated by a shared commitment to preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture through dance.

According to their leader, Ivandzhelin Ivanova, the collaboration aims to celebrate Bulgarian folklore abroad. Their performance piece will be “Shopska Zakachka” (“Shopi tease”), choreographed by Iliya Petkov. This routine draws inspiration from traditional dances of the Shopluk folklore region, aiming to recreate the energetic spirit and playful interactions characteristic of village celebrations.

The ensemble comprises 22 dancers, with ages ranging from 14 to over 60. Several members of the groups were born or raised in Germany but maintain strong ties to their Bulgarian heritage. Preparations for the festival have involved rigorous, multi-weekly rehearsals, alongside the creation of specialized costumes and accessories.

This traveling festival gathers amateur Bulgarian folklore ensembles from various international locations and has been held in multiple European cities since its inception in 2015. The joint appearance represents a significant cultural showcase for the dance community in the region, bringing together talents from Essen and Krefeld.
