Alley of Freedom in Historic Oborishte Area Is Unveiled

The renovated Alley of Freedom in Panagyurishte was unveiled on Saturday, marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The 7-kilometer thoroughfare stretches from the town outskirts to the Oborishte monument in the area’s historic center. The rebuilding effort was funded by donations exceeding EUR 2 million from Asarel-Medet AD.

The opening ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including members of parliament, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov, Municipal Council Chairman Ivan Lalov, and regional officials. Originally constructed in 1976, the alley serves as a link between Panagyurishte and the historic Oborishte area. Its path transitions from an asphalt route near the town edge to a forest eco-trail, culminating in a commemorative historical route leading to the monument of the First Bulgarian Grand National Assembly.

Mayor Gagov stated that the location is sacred, honoring the determination of ancestors who desired freedom. He presented a commemorative plaque to Dimitar Tsotsorkov, representing Asarel-Medet AD. Gagov noted that the alley was first established 50 years prior by a youth brigade under the guidance of Prof.

Dr. Lachezar Tsotsorkov. Eng.

Nikolay Peltekov, Executive Director of Asarel-Medet AD, emphasized the corporate commitment to preserving this historical memory. He stated that the project was a duty to the present generation, serving as an example of patriotism for future citizens. The initiative was highlighted as the largest such project in the Fourth Revolutionary District, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising.
