Alley of Freedom in Historic Oborishte Area Is Unveiled

The fully renovated Alley of Freedom in Panagyurishte was officially unveiled on Saturday. This 7-kilometer road connects the town’s outskirts to the historic Oborishte area, culminating at the Apriltsi Monument. The renovation was funded by donations exceeding EUR 2 million from Asarel-Medet AD and coincides with the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising.

The opening ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including members of parliament, Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov, Municipal Council Chairman Ivan Lalov, and regional representatives. Mayor Gagov noted that the site is significant, stating, “One hundred and fifty years ago, it gathered the finest people of the region… Respect for their memory brings us together.” During the event, Gagov presented a commemorative plaque to Dimitar Tsotsorkov, representing Asarel-Medet AD.

Originally constructed in 1976, the alley serves as a passage connecting Panagyurishte with the historic Oborishte. It transitions from an asphalt path near the town edge to a forest eco-trail, ultimately leading visitors to the monument honoring the First Bulgarian Grand National Assembly. Eng.

Nikolay Peltekov, Executive Director of Asarel-Medet AD, emphasized the corporate commitment, stating that the project was a duty to the nation’s heritage. He added that the initiative, described as the largest in the Fourth Revolutionary District, was designed to inspire future generations regarding the spirit of freedom and patriotism.
