By mid-April 2026, the General Labour Inspectorate reported a decline in the overall number of workplace accidents. According to Executive Director Ekaterina Asenova, 126 workplace accidents had been reported through this period, a reduction from 157 recorded during the same period in 2025. Fatal workplace accidents stood at 26, down from 36 in 2025, and non-traumatic fatal incidents decreased to 14, compared to 19 in the corresponding period.
Asenova noted that statistics indicate that 90% of workplace accidents are preventable through adherence to occupational safety rules. The primary causes identified include crushing, entrapment, falls from height, and objects striking workers. As of mid-April 2026, the highest-risk sectors remain construction, crop and livestock farming, metal product manufacturing (excluding machinery and equipment), and trade.
