In 1951, the Brushlyan Irrigation System commenced operation, marking the country’s inaugural engineering irrigation system. Subsequent decades saw significant industrial and diplomatic developments. In 1963, a major industrial milestone was reached with the opening of an electric hoist factory in Gabrovo, establishing the facility as the leading manufacturer of electric rope hoists across Central and Eastern Europe.

The nation also expanded its diplomatic footprint. In 1964, diplomatic relations with Italy were elevated to the embassy level. Furthermore, in 1971, formal diplomatic relations were established with Ecuador, also at the embassy level.

The commitment to international partnerships continued into the 21st century. In 2006, Bulgaria and the United States signed a Defence Cooperation Agreement. This agreement detailed the scope, order, and conditions for the joint use of multiple military facilities located on Bulgarian territory.

These historical markers illustrate periods of significant infrastructure development, such as the implementation of the Brushlyan irrigation system, industrial expansion evidenced by the electric hoist factory, and the steady strengthening of international ties through upgraded and established diplomatic missions.
