Bostandjiev Becomes New PFC Levski Sofia Owner

Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has assumed ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, taking over from the outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, who announced the change on Friday. While Sirakov will retain the role of club president, he will no longer hold shares in the club. Sirakov stated his decision to step down after successfully stabilizing the club during a challenging period, emphasizing that maintaining leadership continuity is vital for Levski’s future.

Bostandjiev stated his objective is to ensure the preservation of Levski’s identity and independence while driving sustainable success both on the pitch and within the club’s operations. He expressed satisfaction that Sirakov will remain in the presidency. A cornerstone of the club’s future development is the planned new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium.

Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA unveiled the concept, projecting a total investment of EUR 120 million. The facility is designed to accommodate 24,718 spectators under Bulgarian Football Union regulations and 23,032 under UEFA standards. Construction is slated to commence in spring 2027.

The stadium is envisioned as a multifunctional complex capable of hosting major events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced public park areas. Professionally, Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, focusing on emerging markets. His prior experience includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and as a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
