Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired the majority stake in PFC Levski Sofia, taking ownership from the outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, according to an announcement made Friday. While Bostandjiev assumes the ownership role, Sirakov will retain the position of club president, having stepped down from his shareholder capacity after stabilizing the club during a critical period. Both parties emphasized the necessity of continuity to secure the future of the club.
Bostandjiev stated that his primary goals are to ensure the preservation of Levski’s identity and independence while achieving sustainable success both on the pitch and within the club’s operational structure. A central pillar of the club’s new development plan is the proposed Georgi Asparuhov Stadium. Levski and the architectural firm IPA have unveiled the concept, projecting a total investment of EUR 120 million.
The facility is designed to accommodate 24,718 spectators under Bulgarian Football Union guidelines and 23,032 under UEFA standards. Construction is slated to commence in spring 2027. The stadium is intended as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting major events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced public park areas.
Bostandjiev, the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital since 2014, brings extensive international financial experience. Prior to this, he served as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and held a partnership role at Goldman Sachs in London. His career began in 1998 at Merrill Lynch in Frankfurt.
Bostandjiev, who is Bulgarian by origin, also supports philanthropic efforts through the Chance for Children and Nature of Bulgaria foundation.
