The Camping & Caravaning Expo 2026 commenced on Friday and continues through Sunday at the former Sofia Land park area. Organized by Camping.BG, this forum marks the 12th consecutive year of the event, which first appeared in 2018. This year, 99 exhibitors from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Germany are participating, with expectations of drawing over 12,000 visitors.
The expo showcases the latest trends in recreational vehicles, including campers, caravans, and various outdoor activities such as water sports and cycling. According to Camping.BG founder Veselin Valev, interest in camping tourism in Bulgaria is increasing. Valev noted that equipment costs vary widely, with campers ranging from approximately EUR 50,000 up to several million euros.
He advised that a trailer offers a budget-friendly alternative to a full camper, while the choice between a camper and a caravan depends on the intended trip duration—campers suit mobility, whereas caravans are better for longer stays in one location. Organizers recommend that newcomers begin at regulated campgrounds, which provide amenities like showers and hot water, rather than attempting wild camping. While Bulgaria has over 200 campsites, Valev pointed out that improving infrastructure, particularly quality roads leading to attractions, is crucial for the sector’s development.
The event provides educational sessions on topics ranging from converting vans into campervans to sustainable travel, aligning with this year’s focus on responsible camping. The presence of numerous international exhibitors at the expo underscores the growing appeal of caravaning and camping tourism.
