Gianlorenzo Blengini, the head coach of the Bulgarian men’s national volleyball team, encouraged the public to attend the initial stages of the Giro d’Italia, which will take place in Bulgaria later this week. The prestigious race begins on May 8 in Nessebar, traversing through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv before concluding in Sofia on May 10, after which the competition continues in Italy. Blengini stated that attending the event live offers a unique perspective.
Regarding the race’s significance, he noted that the Giro is an exceptionally important event for Italy, representing national pride globally, and highlighted the enduring legacy of cycling legends. The coach also discussed his own increased involvement in cycling, explaining that it provides a means of training without causing injury, a necessity as he can no longer run regularly. Currently, Blengini and his squad are training in Samokov.
The Giro peloton is scheduled to pass through Samokov during the third stage on May 10. The Italian coach anticipates that the team will have the opportunity to observe the event. He noted that seeing the professional athletes in action is a distinct experience compared to gym training.
Blengini emphasized that witnessing the race in person provides insight into the dedication required at the elite level of the sport. The coach, who previously guided Bulgaria to a silver medal at the 2025 World Championship, stated that the team looks forward to the chance to watch the passing procession, viewing it as a highlight of their current training schedule.
