Dance Groups from Essen and Krefeld to Perform Jointly in Munich

The dance groups “Shevitsa,” based in Essen, and “Mila Rodina,” an amateur ensemble from Krefeld, Germany, will collaborate for their first joint appearance. Under the combined name “Shevitsi from Mila Rodina,” the two organizations are set to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance traveling festival. This event is scheduled to take place from May 15 to May 17 at the BMW Park in Munich.

According to the joint leader, Ivandzhelin Ivanova, the collaboration stems from a mutual dedication to Bulgarian folklore and a commitment to preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture internationally. For this festival, the groups will perform the piece “Shopska Zakachka” (“Shopi tease”), a routine choreographed by Iliya Petkov. This performance is inspired by the traditional dances of the Shopluk folklore region, aiming to recreate the lively spirit and playful interactions characteristic of village celebrations.

The combined contingent comprises 22 dancers, representing an age range from 14 to over 60. Several members of the participating groups were born or raised in Germany but maintain deep cultural ties to Bulgaria. Preparations for the performance have involved intensive rehearsals multiple times weekly, alongside the creation of specialized costumes and accessories.

This traveling festival serves as a gathering point for amateur Bulgarian folklore ensembles from around the world. Since its inception in 2015, the event has been hosted in various European cities, providing a platform for cultural exchange through dance.
