Dance Groups from Essen and Krefeld to Perform Jointly in Munich

The dance groups “Shevitsa” from Essen and “Mila Rodina” from Krefeld are collaborating for their first joint performance under the name “Shevitsi from Mila Rodina.” The collaboration is set to take place at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, scheduled for May 15 through May 17 at the BMW Park in Munich. According to the group’s leader, Ivandzhelin Ivanova, the union stems from a mutual commitment to preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture internationally. The ensemble will perform “Shopska Zakachka” (“Shopi tease”), a piece choreographed by Iliya Petkov.

This routine draws inspiration from the traditional dances of the Shopluk folklore region, aiming to recreate the lively atmosphere and playful interactions characteristic of village celebrations. The performance features 22 dancers, whose ages range from 14 to over 60. While some members were born or raised in Germany, they maintain deep ties to their Bulgarian heritage.

Preparations for the event have involved intensive weekly rehearsals, alongside the detailed creation of necessary costumes and accessories. The travelling festival serves as a gathering point for amateur Bulgarian folklore ensembles from around the world. Since its inception in 2015, the event has hosted cultural showcases across various European cities.

The participation of these established German-based groups underscores the continuing cultural exchange facilitated by the international dance community.
