Development Minister Discusses Ways to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation During Visit to Turkiye

Bulgaria’s Regional Development Minister, Nikolay Naydenov, attended the 17th ITS European Congress in Istanbul, according to the Ministry’s press centre on Monday. The congress is a significant forum for smart mobility and intelligent transport, gathering experts, researchers, and public authorities to showcase practical solutions, innovations, and technologies. During the event, the minister held a working meeting with Turkiye’s Deputy Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Omer Sayan.

The discussion focused on avenues to strengthen infrastructure cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkiye. Both sides indicated a commitment to deepening their collaboration to boost transport capacity and connectivity along the north-south axis, specifically mentioning the potential development of the Black Sea Motorway. Furthermore, Minister Naydenov met with Mehmet Cahit Turhan, CEO of the company responsible for building and operating the Northern Marmara Motorway.

This motorway, which utilizes ITS technologies, incorporates the recently finished Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, recognized as one of the world’s tallest bridges. The Turkish delegation conveyed its willingness to share expertise in the construction and management of major infrastructure projects with Bulgaria’s development sector.
