Election Commission Deputy Chair: No Vote Rigging Reported

Rositsa Mateva, Deputy Chair and spokesperson for the Central Election Commission (CEC), stated on Friday that there were no reports of vote rigging during the April 19 parliamentary election. Addressing hypothetical allegations of result manipulation concerning Siyanie (Radiance), Mateva commented that the commission hoped for no appeals, citing positive assessments from international observers and the caretaker government. Regarding a specific incident in Montana involving a section election commission (SEC) member who cast ten ballots, Mateva criticized the inaction of other SEC members present.

She noted that once ballots are cast into boxes, they cannot be retrieved. She emphasized that this specific instance was an anomaly, stating it was one case out of nearly 13,000 voting sections. The deputy addressed procedural matters, confirming that most replacements for SEC members were based on personal refusal, though some changes occurred after the members were elected and trained.

She stated that the CEC maintains working relationships with various caretaker cabinets. Overall, Mateva expressed confidence in the fairness and normalcy of the election process, noting that communication with the Public Council had been effective. She also mentioned that thirteen MPs elected across two constituencies are expected to select one representative on Friday.

Reflecting on the CEC’s tenure, she acknowledged the volume of electoral activity, including twelve national and one hundred and seven by-elections over the past five years.
