Election Commission: With 91.68% of Tally Sheets Processed, Progressive Bulgaria Leads with 44.7%, Second Is GERB-UDF with 13.4%

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has released preliminary findings stemming from the parliamentary election held on April 19. These initial results are based on the processing of 91.68% of the available tally sheets, which were compiled through the section election commissions and subsequently processed by the constituency election commissions as of Monday morning. The CEC’s announcement indicates which political parties and coalitions have successfully met the stipulated 4% electoral threshold.

This procedural update is part of the ongoing tabulation following what was the eighth parliamentary election in Bulgaria since 2021. Legally, the CEC operates under specific timelines following any election. According to the Election Code, the commission is mandated to officially announce the votes received and the subsequent distribution of seats among all participating parties and coalitions no later than four days after the election day.

Furthermore, the names of the elected Members of Parliament must be published within seven days following the vote. The preliminary nature of the report means that final figures are pending the processing of all remaining tally sheets. The ongoing work by the commission is crucial to finalizing the mandate and confirming the constitutional transfer of power.

Stakeholders await the final pronouncements from the CEC as they move toward completing the electoral certification process.
