The Chemshir Bulgarian Folklore Club, based in Armagh, Northern Ireland, is set to participate in a notable performance at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event, focusing on international folklore traditions, will take place in Munich from May 15 to May 17. The club will collaborate with the Detelini Dance Folklore Ensemble from Athens.
The performance is expected to feature dancers representing multiple nations, including Greece, Cyprus, the USA, and Northern Ireland. According to Plamena Chemshirova, leader of the dance group, the collaboration is significant as a representation of the global unity of Bulgarian dancers. The group plans to present a Thracian dance originating from the Pazardzhik Region.
Chemshirova noted that the choreography narrates themes of young love, the strength of friendship, and the cultural resonance of the Bulgarian horo. The Expats Join Hands festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which has hosted previous editions in 2015 and 2025.
Organizers anticipate a large turnout for the Munich event, expecting over 100 dance ensembles and more than 4,000 attendees. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the festival, overseeing all participating groups.
