Football Union Head Georgi Ivanov and Hristo Stoichkov Take Part in FIFA Tournament before Organization’s Congress

Bulgarian Football Union President Georgi Ivanov recently participated in a legends game tournament organized by FIFA in Vancouver, Canada, on the eve of the organization’s 76th Congress. Ivanov was a member of the European football team, which featured several renowned figures in world soccer, including David Trezeguet, Andriy Shevchenko, Goran Pandev, Davor Suker, and Michel Salgado. The UEFA squad advanced to the semifinals but was ultimately defeated by the Canadian team, which included players such as Hristo Stoichkov and Demetrio Albertini.

Separately, a day before the FIFA Congress, the official delegation from the Bulgarian Football Union, led by Ivanov and accompanied by Deputy Executive Directors Iveta Bankova and Dobrin Gyonov, attended a working meeting for UEFA member associations. During this session, attendees discussed the key items scheduled for the upcoming Congress. Furthermore, the meeting addressed critical issues concerning the development of both European and global football.

The dual events highlighted the continued focus on the sport. While the legends tournament served as a major gathering for global football stars, the formal meeting ensured that union leaders remained engaged in strategic planning. Ivanov’s presence underscored the Bulgarian Football Union’s participation in shaping the future direction of international football governance following the discussions held in Vancouver.
