For Grande Partenza Event of 109th Giro d’Italia Hosted by Bulgaria Go as Planned

Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports Dimitar Iliev chaired an online working meeting this week with representatives from the institutions tasked with organizing the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting addressed current organizational progress, coordination among involved bodies, and upcoming critical activities. Minister Iliev reviewed the readiness of the participating entities, stressing the necessity of strong inter-institutional coordination for the successful execution of the event.

He acknowledged the commitment shown thus far, stating that while hosting an event of this magnitude presents a significant challenge, joint efforts ensure continued progress toward a successful competition. Participants confirmed that preparations are advancing according to the established plan, with measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall organization. Discussions also covered safety protocols for both participants and spectators, alongside ensuring the optimal flow of the competition.

The 2026 Giro d’Italia in Bulgaria is scheduled to commence in Nessebar on the Black Sea on May 8. The race route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv before concluding in Sofia on May 10. To support coverage, BTA has launched a dedicated section titled “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria,” detailing the three stages passing through the country from May 8 to May 10, 2026.
