The Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, convened an online working meeting with representatives from institutions responsible for organizing the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting addressed the current organizational progress, the coordination among involved governmental bodies, and forthcoming key activities. Minister Iliev reviewed the preparedness of all participating parties, stressing that successful staging of the event hinges on robust inter-institutional coordination.

He acknowledged the commitment demonstrated by all groups, stating that while hosting an event of this magnitude presents a significant challenge, joint efforts ensure continued progress toward a successful competition. Attendees confirmed that preparations are proceeding according to the established timeline, with necessary measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall operational structure. Discussions also covered safety protocols for both competitors and spectators, alongside maintaining optimal competition standards.

The itinerary for the Giro d’Italia within Bulgaria is set to begin on May 8 in Nessebar, located on the Black Sea. The race route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv, concluding in Sofia on May 10. To support coverage, BTA has launched a dedicated online section titled “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria,” detailing the three-stage event scheduled to take place between May 8 and May 10, 2026.
