For Grande Partenza Event of 109th Giro d’Italia Hosted by Bulgaria Go as Planned

Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, convened an online working meeting with representatives from the institutions tasked with organizing Bulgaria’s participation in the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting addressed the current organizational progress, inter-institutional coordination, and forthcoming key activities. Minister Iliev reviewed the preparedness of the involved parties, stressing the critical need for robust coordination among institutions to ensure the successful staging of the event.

He acknowledged the efforts to date, stating that while hosting an event of this magnitude presents a significant challenge, joint institutional efforts are ensuring progress with confidence. He affirmed the commitment to maintaining full coordination to guarantee the competition’s success. Participants confirmed that preparations are advancing according to the established schedule, with measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall organization.

Discussions also covered safety protocols for both participants and spectators, alongside ensuring the optimal conduct of the race. The Giro d’Italia is scheduled to commence in Nessebar on the Black Sea on May 8. The route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv, concluding in Sofia on May 10.
