Gospodinov’s Novel “Time Shelter” Published in Japan, Breaks Into Top 5 Foreign Bestsellers

The novel Time Shelter has been released into the book market of Japan, according to announcements made by its author, Georgi Gospodinov. Gospodinov stated that the novel was published in Tokyo in April by the Kayakawa publishing house. This publication marks a notable cultural milestone, as reports indicate that Time Shelter is the first Bulgarian novel to be published in Japan since 1989.

The novel has already garnered significant attention, reportedly ranking among the top five best-selling foreign publications on Amazon Japan. The translation of the work into Japanese was handled by Kenji Terashima. In a post announcing the release, Gospodinov also included a lighthearted comment regarding a character in the book, noting that the character speaks Japanese and arrived in Japan prior to him.

Georgi Gospodinov’s literary reach is extensive, with his works having been translated into numerous languages across the globe, including English, German, Polish, Dutch, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic.
