Has Sufficient Reserves of Aviation Fuel, Says Transport Commissioner

During his participation in the Delphi Economic Forum, EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, stated that the European Union maintains sufficient aviation fuel reserves, capable of sustaining operations for a period of up to three months. Addressing the ongoing energy crisis, Tzitzikostas asserted that the cancellations reported by some airlines are primarily linked to escalating fuel costs rather than actual supply shortages. The Commissioner characterized the current energy crisis as one of the largest in history and issued a forecast predicting a challenging summer period.

Furthermore, he cautioned that the global ramifications could be severe should the conflict in the Middle East persist. In other strategic updates, Tzitzikostas detailed the EU’s military mobility plan, which involves the modernization of 500 strategically vital sites across the continent. On the tourism front, he projected a notable decrease in the number of travelers arriving from Asia into Europe.

The Delphi Forum itself continues through Saturday, April 25, hosting over 200 discussions and panels featuring approximately 1,200 international speakers. Participants represent governments, international organizations, academia, and business sectors, focusing on themes spanning geopolitics, economic shifts, and technological transformation.
