Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to conduct a series of consultations with the major parliamentary groups on May 5. According to the President’s press secretariat, these meetings are constitutionally mandated to allow Iotova to assign a Prime Minister-designate. The Prime Minister-designate will be nominated by the largest parliamentary group participating in the process.

The consultation schedule begins with Progressive Bulgaria, which currently holds the largest representation with 131 seats in the 240-seat Parliament. Following this initial meeting, Iotova will proceed sequentially with representatives from the remaining groups: GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. These structured consultations are a critical step in the formation of the next government.

After concluding her meetings with all the parliamentary factions, Iotova is expected to issue a formal statement to the media addressing the outcomes of the talks. The political activity follows the recent swearing-in of Members of Parliament on April 30, an event which also saw Mihaela Dotsova, a member of Progressive Bulgaria, elected as the Chair of the National Assembly. The sequence of these high-level consultations underscores the constitutional process required to stabilize the government following the parliamentary elections.
