Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to conduct a series of consultations with the major parliamentary groups on May 5. According to the President’s press secretariat, these meetings are a constitutional requirement preceding the formation of a new government. Following these discussions, the President is tasked with assigning the Prime Minister-designate proposed by the largest parliamentary faction to lead the government formation process.

The schedule for the consultations begins with Progressive Bulgaria, which currently holds 131 seats in the 240-seat Parliament. Subsequently, Iotova will meet with representatives from the other significant parliamentary blocs: GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. These consultations are critical steps in the post-election governmental formation process.

Once all required meetings are concluded, Iotova plans to address the media with a formal statement detailing the next steps. The context for these proceedings follows the swearing-in of the Members of Parliament on April 30. During that session, Mihaela Dotsova, representing Progressive Bulgaria, was elected as the Chair of the National Assembly.

The planned meetings underscore the procedural timeline for establishing the executive branch, ensuring adherence to the constitutional framework governing the selection of the next government leadership.
