-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Launched in Sofia

The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was formally launched on Friday during a ceremony held at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Attendees included Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, local mayors, and business representatives from both nations. Atanas Radev will chair the newly established bilateral chamber.

In his address, Radev advocated for building stronger connections between the two neighboring countries. Kostadinov stated that the economic bridge between Bulgaria and North Macedonia is nearly complete, despite recent challenges. He emphasized that deepening economic ties through cooperation in sectors such as energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture is crucial, noting that the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is below the potential of their relationship.

Ambassador Agneza Rusi-Popovska highlighted Bulgaria’s role as a vital trading partner and gateway to the European Union for North Macedonia, linking economic growth to the latter’s European integration. She pointed to opportunities in energy, manufacturing, transport, and digital services, while noting that insufficient infrastructure limits full-scale commerce. Ivan Todorov of the BCCI also stressed the need for improved connectivity across road, rail, and air transport.

The BMCCI’s inaugural event was a Bulgarian–Macedonian Business Forum, designed to foster joint ventures and future industry cooperation. Radev announced plans to host such forums annually in both countries, aiming to strengthen business ties between the two nations.
