LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine focuses on the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876. The thematic publication, dedicated to literature, culture, and art, utilizes BTA’s archives to present the historical events, alongside records of commemorations held over the years. The magazine incorporates commentary from educators, public figures, and local community representatives from the revolutionary districts associated with the uprising’s history.

The launch of the issue is scheduled for April 20 at the St. Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa, an event also broadcast via video link with BTA’s national press clubs both domestically and internationally. Partners include the Koprivshtitsa Municipality and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The content explores the lasting significance of the uprising, drawing on discussions held at BTA’s national press clubs and in the centers of the four revolutionary districts. According to BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, the discussions highlighted enduring lessons relevant to the present, emphasizing that despite perceived failures, the uprising ultimately contributed to Bulgaria’s freedom. Other contributors have analyzed the uprising’s context, noting the relative youth of its leaders and their commitment to achieving unconditional political freedom.

The LIK magazine also features a thematic timeline compiling historical news reports from BTA’s archives, spanning from the agency’s founding in 1898 to the present day. Furthermore, the publication contextualizes the 150th anniversary within broader Bulgarian historical narratives, referencing past commemorations and future initiatives marking the nation’s cultural milestones.
