LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine is dedicated to marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising that began in 1876. The publication, which focuses on literature, culture, and art, utilizes BTA’s archives to present historical information and documentation of past commemorations. The magazine also includes commentary from educators, public figures, and local community representatives from regions associated with the historical uprising.

The launch event for the magazine is scheduled for Monday, April 20, at the St. Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa. Director General Kiril Valchev noted that the issue compiles discussions held across BTA’s national press clubs and in the centers of the four revolutionary districts: Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Panagyurishte.

Valchev stated that the discussions highlighted lessons relevant to the present, concluding that the uprising ultimately led to Bulgaria’s freedom. Journalists and academics featured in the publication analyzed various facets of the event. One commentary highlighted the youth of the leaders, contrasting their commitment to freedom with conventional expectations.

Another article emphasized that the April Uprising represents a significant collective effort in Bulgarian history. The LIK magazine features a thematic timeline compiling news reports from BTA’s archives, spanning from the agency’s founding in 1898 to the present. The scope of commemoration is extensive, recalling historical coverage, foreign artistic depictions, and recounting memories from contemporaries who attended commemorations in 1945 and 1958.

Furthermore, the magazine details plans for future events, including discussions marking the 150th anniversary in 2026.
