The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was officially launched on Friday during a ceremony hosted by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Attendees included the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, local government officials from Southwestern Bulgaria, the Chair of the Macedonian–Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce, Biljana Miteva, and business representatives from both nations. Atanas Radev will chair the newly formed bilateral chamber.
In his address, Radev advocated for fostering connections between the neighboring countries. Kostadinov stated that the economic commerce link between Bulgaria and North Macedonia is nearly complete, despite recent challenges. He noted that the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is insufficient given the potential of the relationship.
He identified energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture as sectors ripe for deeper cooperation, calling for constructive dialogue among business organizations. Ambassador Rusi-Popovska highlighted that Bulgaria remains a crucial trading partner for North Macedonia, serving not only as a neighbor but also as a gateway to the European Union. She linked stronger economic ties to North Macedonia’s integration process, while also urging increased investment activity across sectors like energy, manufacturing, transport, and digital services.
Ivan Todorov, Vice President of the BCCI, emphasized the need for better infrastructure, including road, rail, and air connectivity. The newly established BMCCI immediately held its first Bulgarian–Macedonian Business Forum. According to Radev, this forum aims to strengthen industry ties, generate joint venture opportunities, and maintain connections with state and municipal institutions.
The chamber plans to host similar forums annually in both countries.
