Macedonia’s President Congratulates Rumen Radev on Election Victory

North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova offered congratulations to Rumen Radev following his victory in the parliamentary elections held on April 19. Speaking after attending the Conference of Presidents and Speakers of Parliaments of the Adriatic & Ionian Initiative in Skopje, the president emphasized the necessity of adopting a regional approach in bilateral relations. She reiterated that North Macedonia remains committed to fostering “friendly and constructive relations” and promoting mutual understanding regarding the path toward European Union enlargement.

Siljanovska-Davkova informed reporters that she had contacted Radev following the election and subsequently spoke with him. She stated that she conveyed her best wishes, adding that she believes such support indicates a degree of stability. She suggested that Bulgarian citizens may perceive Radev as a stabilizing force for the country, which could facilitate his ability to form a government and implement his agenda.

The president concluded by expressing her interest in arranging a future meeting. Separately, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski also congratulated Radev on his win, underscoring the importance of continuous dialogue and maintaining positive neighborly relations. The diplomatic focus in North Macedonia centers on interpreting the election outcomes in Bulgaria, specifically regarding potential shifts in Bulgaria’s position concerning the country’s trajectory toward EU membership.
