Macedonia’s President Congratulates Rumen Radev on Election Victory

The President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, extended congratulations to Rumen Radev following his victory in the parliamentary elections held on April 19. During a press engagement in Skopje, following a Conference of Presidents and Speakers of Parliaments of the Adriatic & Ionian Initiative, the President emphasized the importance of a regional cooperative approach. Siljanovska-Davkova stated that she had communicated with Radev post-election and subsequently spoke with him by phone.

She noted that she wished him success, adding that she believes such strong support is a guarantee of stability. She observed that Bulgarian citizens may view Radev as a stabilizing figure for the country, which could facilitate his efforts to form a government and implement his platform. The North Macedonia president concluded by expressing her anticipation of arranging a meeting with him.

These remarks were echoed by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who also congratulated Radev and underscored the necessity of maintaining dialogue and positive neighborly relations. The statements highlight the continued focus among political figures in Macedonia on the implications of the election results for Bulgaria’s commitment to the country’s path toward European Union membership. The commitment from North Macedonia, according to the President, remains focused on building “friendly and constructive relations” and advancing mutual understanding regarding EU enlargement.
