Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov addressed the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising on Monday, stating that the definition of freedom has shifted from merely a possibility to a matter of deliberate choice. Gurov reflected on the events of 150 years prior, when revolutionaries rose up to secure the right for all Bulgarians to choose their path—a right, he noted, that Bulgarians exercised recently. The minister emphasized that freedom is not a singular event but an ongoing commitment.
He stated that it requires continuous vigilance, critical thought, and the refusal to remain silent when the defense of freedom is necessary. In a tribute to the heroes of the April Uprising, Prime Minister Gurov shared a video clip on his Facebook page. The video featured him reciting a letter originally written by the Bulgarian revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev to Ivan Grudov, Ivan Kavaldzhiev, and Georgi Stranski.
The remarks underscore the ongoing civic responsibility associated with national freedom, as articulated by the minister. Gurov’s message served as a reflection on historical sacrifices and the enduring necessity of active participation in preserving civil liberties.
