Physicist Involved in NASA’s Artemis Missions Visits Bulgaria

Dr. Petko Dinev, a pioneer in advanced imaging and photonics whose work has contributed to NASA’s Artemis I and Artemis II missions, visited Bulgaria on April 27 and 28 at the invitation of caretaker Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky. During the visit, the Minister toured the Sofia Tech Park, acknowledging Dr.

Dinev’s achievements as a notable contribution to modern space projects originating from Bulgaria. Neynsky emphasized that Dinev’s visit coincided with significant anniversaries marking the relationship between Bulgaria and the United States, including the 250th anniversary of the U.S., the fifth anniversary of the renewed Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement, and the 20th anniversary of the Defense Cooperation Agreement. She stated that these agreements form a strong basis for the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The visit commenced at the Sofia Tech Park, identified by the Minister as a global center for innovation in Bulgaria. Neynsky highlighted the nation’s significant potential in high technologies, citing assets such as the Discoverer+ supercomputer, the BRAIN++ artificial intelligence factory, and advanced micro- and nanotechnology laboratories. The Foreign Minister noted that Bulgaria possesses strong engineering traditions, a competitive IT sector, and a growing innovation ecosystem.

She expressed the desire to deepen cooperation with the U.S. in areas including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, microelectronics, space technologies, and research and development. By leveraging these opportunities, Bulgaria aims to strengthen its role as a technological partner and global contributor, reinforcing its close ties and joint initiatives with the U.S.
