The Change: We Are Very Far from Becoming One Party with Yes, Bulgaria

Nikolay Denkov, a former prime minister and deputy leader of Continue the Change (CC), stated that the formation of a single political party encompassing Yes, Bulgaria is a distant prospect. Denkov indicated that while the parties share common objectives, they diverge on the practical methods for achieving those goals. Although CC, Yes, Bulgaria, and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria have operated as coalition partners since 2023, a formal coalition agreement remains absent.

Recently, the National Council of Yes, Bulgaria passed a resolution tasking the party with developing a formal coalition agreement and a roadmap for a unified political entity. Denkov commented on the two alternatives put forth, describing them as “very extreme.” He specifically criticized the proposal to create a single common party, arguing that such a move would restrict the coalition’s support base to an estimated 6-7% within major urban centers. The deputy leader clarified that the situation does not imply a separation, but rather a framework where parties can collaborate while each retaining its distinct strengths.

He noted that the parties have already reached an agreement concerning the joint nomination of a presidential candidate. Regarding the potential for CC and Yes, Bulgaria to form separate parliamentary groups, Denkov stated that the final decision rests with the assembled Members of Parliament. These differing views contrast with recent statements from Yes, Bulgaria co-leaders, Ivaylo Mirchev and Bozhidar Bozhanov, who asserted that the electorate desires a move toward a consolidated political project for Bulgaria.
