President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to attend the opening of the National Commemorative Assembly on Monday, marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising, according to the presidential press secretariat on Sunday. The event is organized by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and will be held at the BAS headquarters in Sofia. The presidential schedule for the day also includes participation in a prayer service for the souls of the victims of the April Uprising.
Patriarch Daniil will lead this prayer at St Alexander Nevsky Memorial Cathedral in Sofia. Following the service, President Iotova and Patriarch Daniil are expected to march to the BAS headquarters, where they will be joined by members of the academic community. The National Commemorative Assembly will officially open with remarks from BAS President Evelina Slavcheva.
The gathering serves to observe the significant historical milestone of the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising.
