200,000 Bulgarians Cast Votes Abroad, 53,000 Voted by Machine, Says Foreign Minister Neynsky

Following Bulgaria’s early parliamentary elections held on April 19, Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky provided an update on the turnout of Bulgarian citizens voting abroad on Monday. According to the minister, nearly 200,000 Bulgarian citizens cast their votes internationally, with 53,000 of those ballots processed via machine. Neynsky noted a procedural challenge regarding the voter registration process.

She stated that 156,000 voters, representing 81% of those abroad, did not complete advance registration and instead filed applications to vote on Election Day, which resulted in processing delays. The minister also provided updates on the logistics of voting in various countries. In the westernmost sections of the United States, ballot counting operations were ongoing.

Furthermore, she reported that in Turkiye, voting extended past the official end of Election Day in seven separate sections due to high voter queues. In other European locations, extended hours were implemented. Five voting sections in London, United Kingdom, operated beyond standard times.

Additionally, voting continued after 8 pm in one section each in Spain and Norway, while two sections in Serbia also required extended hours to accommodate voters. The detailed reports provided by the foreign minister covered the logistical scope of the international voting effort.
