500-Plus Hectares of State Forest Will Be Re-Designated to Build Parking Facility Near Zemen Monastery

Municipal councilors recently approved a significant change involving over 500 hectares of state forest land near the Zemen Monastery. According to Iva Borisova, Chair of the Zemen Municipal Council, the decision followed a request from Mayor Mihail Zlatanov to change the land’s designation. The goal is to transfer the property, currently state-owned, into municipal ownership for the construction of a public parking facility.

The Mayor argued that the coniferous forest site is strategically located near the Zemen Monastery, a site that draws substantial year-round tourism. Currently, the lack of a dedicated parking area creates access difficulties for visitors arriving by private vehicle, as buses and cars often congregate in unregulated spots. Beyond the parking development, the council also approved several proposals concerning the restoration of land within the Municipal Land Fund across the villages of Divlya, Dolna Vrabcha, and the town of Zemen.

Furthermore, Iva Borisova noted that funds were allocated for several local cultural initiatives. These include support for the traditional fair held at the Zemen Monastery, as well as funding for the Pantele convention. Additional resources were earmarked to support various local community gatherings and church feasts, reflecting a broader commitment to local infrastructure and cultural preservation within the municipality.
