Municipal councilors approved the re-designation of over 500 hectares of state forest land intended for the development of a public parking facility near the Zemen Monastery. According to Iva Borisova, Chair of the Zemen Municipal Council, Mayor Mihail Zlatanov submitted the request to alter the designation of the state-owned plot, allowing its transfer to municipal ownership for the construction project. Mayor Zlatanov justified the proposal by noting the property’s location adjacent to the Zemen Monastery, a site that draws substantial year-round tourism.
He pointed out that the existing infrastructure lacks a designated area for buses or private vehicles, often causing congestion and complicating visitor access to the religious site. Beyond the parking development, the council approved several other proposals concerning local land management. These included plans for the restoration of land sourced from the Municipal Land Fund across the villages of Divlya and Dolna Vrabcha, as well as within the town of Zemen.
Furthermore, the council allocated funds to support local cultural and community events. Specifically, funds were earmarked for the traditional fair held at the Zemen Monastery and for the Pantele convention. Additional allocations were also made to support various local community gatherings and church feasts, demonstrating a broader commitment to the local infrastructure and cultural life surrounding the Zemen area.
