The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria convened for its inaugural session at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The opening proceedings were conducted by Rumen Milanov, a 78-year-old Member of Parliament representing Progressive Bulgaria, who presided over the ceremony.
Addressing the gathered body of lawmakers, Milanov outlined two primary objectives for the new legislature: reinforcing the rule of law and safeguarding national peace. Following the address, Milanov administered the formal oath to the 240 elected lawmakers. The oath requires each representative to swear before the body that they will uphold the Constitution and the laws of Bulgaria, committing to guide all their actions based on the interests of the citizenry.
The ceremonial proceedings included the playing of the Bulgarian national anthem, followed by the anthem of Europe within the debating chamber. During the performance of the “Ode to Joy,” members of parliament affiliated with Vazrazhdane remained seated. Upon completion of the ceremony, all MPs were required to sign the oath documentation and submit it to the administration.
The opening of this new national assembly marked the beginning of the legislative term for Bulgaria.
