Sofia Municipality hosted the historical educational game, “In the Footsteps of the Heroes,” in Boris Garden Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The initiative engaged local students in an immersive learning experience, transforming the city’s history into an interactive activity. The event unfolded along the Prominent Bulgarians alley, where teams of students participated in a guided search.
Their mission involved locating monuments dedicated to national heroes and responding to questions concerning Bulgarian history. Deputy Mayor Desislava Zhelyazkova, who oversees education and urban development, stated that the event served to connect participants with the significance of a historic act of courage, thereby encouraging students to engage with history beyond traditional classroom settings. Participants followed specific routes that linked major revolutionary figures, including Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Zahari Stoyanov, Todor Kableshkov, and Georgi Benkovski.
By answering historical questions, the teams successfully collected segments of a symbolic map representing the uprising. Upon completing the walk, each team composed a reflective message addressed to the Bulgarian people, inspired by their learning journey. The concept behind the game was developed by history teacher Emil Jassim and is integrated into Sofia Municipality’s broader cultural program.
This effort is executed in collaboration with Sofia’s Regional Education Directorate, ensuring that the celebration of these national figures remains a key component of the city’s cultural calendar.
