Students from Sofia participated in “In the Footsteps of the Heroes,” a historical educational game organized by the Sofia Municipality. The event was held in Boris Garden Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. Along the Prominent Bulgarians alley, teams of students engaged in an immersive activity, searching for monuments dedicated to national heroes and answering questions pertaining to Bulgarian history.
Deputy Mayor Desislava Zhelyazkova, who oversees education and urban development, stated that the initiative serves to connect the public with the historical significance of the occasion, encouraging students to experience history outside of traditional classroom settings. The participants followed structured routes connecting various monuments to key revolutionaries, including Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Zahari Stoyanov, Todor Kableshkov, and Georgi Benkovski. By correctly answering questions, the students collected segments of a symbolic map representing the uprising.
Upon completing the walk, each team composed a brief message to the Bulgarian people, inspired by the historical knowledge they had gained. The concept behind the game was developed in collaboration with history teacher Emil Jassim and is part of the Sofia Municipality’s broader cultural program, implemented in partnership with Sofia’s Regional Education Directorate. The organized effort successfully guided the students through the footsteps of Bulgaria’s heroes, providing a tangible link to the nation’s past.
