Ministry’s Acting Secretary General Says He Has Been Pressured

In a video message posted on Facebook, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, stated that he had faced pressure. Kandev recounted receiving a message instructing him to “Go home,” asserting that those who previously relied on silence and compliance were attempting a similar tactic using familiar language and perceived arrogance. He declared that this pressure, which he characterized as relying on fear and habit, would not succeed this time.

Kandev emphasized that he had not accepted the position of Secretary General to yield to pressure. He stated, “I am not here to bow to threats and backroom deals. I am here to work the way you have seen over the past two months.” According to the Secretary General, he received multiple calls on Thursday, originating from undisclosed mobile numbers.

During one such communication, he was informed that an individual known as “Kartofa” and his associates were providing false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office. Kandev alleged that this testimony was orchestrated by a former official within the Interior Ministry named “Svetlyo.” He speculated that the objective of these actions was to implicate him and compel him to withdraw. The Secretary General addressed the Sofia City Prosecution Service, questioning the testimony provided by “convicted and criminally charged individuals” on Thursday and seeking to identify the instigators and the timing of the current actions.

Concluding his statement, Kandev affirmed, “I will not follow their model. Silence is not an option. I will not back down!”
