In a video statement posted on Facebook, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, addressed recent pressures he claims to have faced. Kandev stated that he received a message advising him to “go home,” characterizing the attempt as a continuation of tactics relying on fear and obedience. He emphasized that he would not yield to threats or private negotiations.
Speaking about his tenure, Kandev affirmed his commitment to his role, stating, “I am not here to bow to threats and backroom deals. I am here to work the way you have seen over the past two months.” He recounted receiving multiple calls on Thursday from unidentified mobile numbers. During these calls, he was informed that an individual known as “Kartofa,” along with associates, were providing false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office.
Kandev alleged that this effort was orchestrated by a former official from the Interior Ministry named “Svetlyo.”
The acting secretary general speculated that the objective of these actions was to implicate him in wrongdoing and compel him to withdraw from his position. Kandev publicly questioned the Sofia City Prosecution Service regarding the veracity of the testimony provided by “convicted and criminally charged individuals” that same day, and questioned the motives and instigators behind the current situation. Concluding his statement, Kandev declared, “I will not follow their model.
Silence is not an option. I will not back down!”
