In a video message posted on Facebook, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, stated that he has been subjected to pressure. Kandev asserted that he received communications advising him to “go home,” accusing those who previously relied on silence and obedience of employing similar tactics. He characterized the pressure as one based on fear and habit, declaring, “Not this time!”
The Secretary General emphasized that his assumption of the position was not contingent upon yielding to threats or private negotiations.
He maintained that his commitment is to continue his work as previously observed. Kandev detailed an incident from Thursday, reporting that he received multiple calls from unknown numbers via a mobile application. During these calls, he was informed that an individual known by the nickname “Kartofa” and his associates were providing false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office.
Kandev alleged that this activity was organized by a former official within the Interior Ministry named “Svetlyo.” He speculated that the objective of these actions was to implicate him and compel him to step down. The General posed several questions to the Sofia City Prosecution Service regarding the validity of the testimony given by “convicted and criminally charged individuals” and sought to identify the parties orchestrating the situation. Kandev concluded by rejecting any notion of silence, stating emphatically, “I will not follow their model.
Silence is not an option. I will not back down!”
