The development of a new Terminal 3 at Vasil Levski Sofia Airport represents one of Bulgaria’s major planned infrastructure investments. According to statements made by Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev, the new terminal is intended to symbolize both the return to Bulgaria and the development opportunities available within the capital city of Sofia. The proposed project encompasses a new terminal covering an area of approximately 65,000 square meters.
This facility is designed to connect with the existing Terminal 2 and possess the capacity to handle up to 20 million passengers annually. The scope of work also includes establishing a modernized transport hub and improving overall links between the airport and the city. Construction is anticipated to commence in the coming years, with completion projected for the 2030–2031 timeframe.
Mayor Terziev emphasized that the project’s importance extends beyond its sheer scale, suggesting that its primary goal is to symbolize a country where people choose to build their future. In procedural updates, SOF Connect announced the commencement of the pre-qualification stage in November 2025. This tender process covers the design and construction of the new Terminal 3, the associated forecourt area, a transport center, and the modernization of the current Terminal 2 at the Sofia airport.
