As of April 23, Bulgaria has registered a total of 165 cases of measles, following the confirmation of six new infections, according to data released by the Ministry of Health. The recent spread was noted across several regions, with two new cases reported in Vratsa, two in Lovech, and one each in Pleven and Sofia. The outbreak prompted immediate action from public health authorities.
The initial eight cases were first confirmed by the Ministry of Health on March 19, originating in the Vratsa region. In response to the rising incidence, authorities issued an order for emergency immunization targeting all children who had not received the necessary vaccinations. In terms of preventative health measures, the Ministry reported that 20,000 children had received vaccinations against measles, mumps, and rubella since the beginning of March.
These efforts underscore the ongoing public health focus on containing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases. The continuous monitoring of measles outbreaks remains a priority for national health officials to mitigate further transmission. The sustained vaccination drive aims to bolster community immunity and reduce the overall burden of the disease within the country.
